Trust & Privacy

Your prayers are
not a dataset.

Theos is designed for a context where privacy is not optional — where the things people share are personal, spiritual, and sometimes the most honest words they've spoken all week. We built the architecture to honor that.

Data Architecture

Conversations auto-delete. You're in control.

By default, conversations with Theo are stored for 7 days and then automatically deleted. No action required on your part. If a conversation matters to you — if you want to return to it — you can choose to save it permanently from within the app.

This was not an afterthought. It was a foundational architectural decision made before a single line of code was written. What you share in faith should not become a permanent record unless you want it to.

What We Store

Your journey. Not your confessions.

Theos stores three things: your journey progress and streak, structured signals from your chats, and any conversations you've explicitly chosen to save.

The signals are not your words. They're structured metadata — what passages you engaged with, how long you spent, what themes surfaced. The kind of data that helps Theo serve you better over time, without holding a record of what you actually said.

We don't store what you told Theo about your marriage, your doubts, or the passage that made you cry. Those moments are yours. They belong to you and God — not to a database.

Theological Guardrails

Theo is trained to stay within the bounds of the faith.

Every response Theo gives is shaped by theological guardrails grounded in the foundational confessions of the historic Christian faith. Theo does not speculate, does not generate novel doctrine, and does not claim to speak with prophetic authority.

Grounded in the historic faith

Theo's theology is anchored to the Apostles' Creed and Nicene Creed — the foundational doctrinal statements shared by Christians across traditions and denominations.

Built on the Berean Standard Bible

All Scripture references, quotations, and contextual readings use the Berean Standard Bible — a rigorous, open-license translation developed with scholarly care.

No new revelation

Theo does not claim to be a prophetic voice. It does not generate personal "words from God," claim special insight beyond Scripture, or speak with the authority of a pastor or spiritual director. What God is saying to you personally is the Holy Spirit's work — Theo will always point you toward prayer and stillness to receive that.

Transparent about what it is

Theo will tell you, if asked, that it is an AI. It does not present itself as a human, a spiritual authority, or a replacement for prayer and pastoral care.

Theo's Role

Theo is not your pastor. It knows that.

Pastors know you. They can see your face. They carry responsibility for your soul and stand accountable before God for how they shepherd you. An AI cannot do any of those things — and Theo is built to never pretend otherwise.

What Theo can do is meet you in the 6am quiet before anyone else is awake. It can help you sit with a passage you've been rushing past. It can ask the question that moves the text from your head into your chest. And then it can point you — always — back toward the body of Christ.

What Theo cannot do is tell you what God is saying to you personally. That work belongs to the Holy Spirit alone. Theo can surface the Scripture most relevant to your situation and help you understand it clearly — and then point you toward prayer and stillness, where the Spirit does what no tool can.

Our Design Philosophy

Scripture is inexhaustible. So is Theo.

We didn't build Theos to be something you graduate out of. Scripture has depths that a lifetime of reading won't fully reach — and every season of life brings new questions to the same texts. Theo is designed to grow with you.

The Notice → Understand → Respond framework does something important over time: it trains you to ask better questions. And better questions lead to more. More depth, more wonder, more passages you want to return to. That's the point.

We designed Theos to deepen your relationship with Scripture — not to mediate it. Theo is a companion for the long journey, not a shortcut through it.

Security

Technical architecture built for trust.

Our privacy commitments aren't just policy statements — they're enforced at the architecture level. Here's an overview of how we protect your data technically.

Encrypted in transit

All data between your device and our servers is encrypted via TLS — the same standard used by banks and healthcare applications.

Encrypted at rest

All stored data — your profile, journey progress, and insight patterns — is encrypted at rest in our database.

No third-party data sharing

We do not sell, license, or share your personal data with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics platforms for commercial purposes.

No training on your data

Your conversations with Theo are not used to train AI models — ours or anyone else's. Your data is yours.

Minimal data collection

We collect only what we need to provide the service. If a piece of data isn't required for the product to work, we don't collect it.

Server-side processing

Sensitive operations — including all LLM calls — happen server-side, not in the browser. Your conversation content is never processed client-side.

Your Control

Your data. Your control. Always.

You can view what Theos has stored about your journey at any time from your Profile. And if you want to delete it — all of it — you can. One request. Complete deletion. No friction. No retention.

We don't make deletion hard because we're not trying to hold your data hostage. You should be able to leave whenever you want, with whatever you came with.

Want to see exactly what Theos has stored? Or delete it entirely? You can do both from your profile.
